Application of zinc stearate in the coatings and paints industry: Zinc stearate is often used in the manufacture of coatings and paints to improve their performance and stability. It can act as a filler to increase the density and viscosity of the coating, thus ensuring good adhesion and durability; It is mainly to improve the sanding property of wood paint, give the primer certain thixotropy and anti-sinking property, improve the filling property of the primer, yellow resistance and the size of the oil absorption.
1) The application of zinc stearate in nitrocellulose paint (NC) Because the film forming material of nitrocellulose is mainly nitrate (nitrocellulose) and alkyd resin, which is a self-drying paint. Features: fast drying speed, due to the large molecular weight of nitrocellulose, low solid content, poor wet to powder filler. Recommended dosage: The amount of zinc stearate added in nitrocellulose paint is relatively small, generally added between 0.1-0.5%, if the amount is too large, it will affect the adhesion and transparency of nitrocellulose paint.
2) The application of zinc stearate powder in PU The film forming resin of PU paint is mainly polyurethane resin and polyisocyanate (curing agent), crosslinking reaction to form film. Recommended dosage: PU primer has high solid content and good wettability to powder, so the appropriate addition amount of PU primer is 3%-7%. (If the amount added to the PU primer is too large, it will also affect the adhesion and transparency of the paint film, and the compatibility is not good, which will cause the paint film to be white and flower in serious cases.)
3) The application of zinc stearate in PE paint The film formation of PE paint mainly has unsaturated polyester and monomer crosslinking agent, accelerator (blue water), hardener (white water) reaction. The biggest advantage of PE primer is that the hardness is very good, and the fullness is better than PU primer.
Products involved: stearate.
